About Me

I'm a thirty-something Religious Studies graduate living in the north of England with my boyfriend, two budgies (Pepys and Bram), four hens (Ruby, Agnes, Florence, and Meg), and a parrot (George). I've been blogging since 2005 in various places, here being the latest, and I'm also on GoodreadsTumblr and Twitter.

I love reading a lot, especially the classics. I'm a member of The Classics Club, and I like to spend time reading, thinking about what I've read or want to read, and generally making sense of the world, which I don't believe I could do so well were it not for the likes of Émile Zola, Anne Brontë, Samuel Richardson, Charles Dickens, James Joyce, Ted Hughes, Virginia Woolf, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Alfred Lord Tennyson, George Eliot, Geoffrey Chaucer, and Dante. Consequently, I have quite a vast collection of books so I never have nothing to read! I love planning as well, so I always have some list of books to be read on the go. At the moment, I'm working my way through my Classics Club list and Ancient Greek and Roman works.

Aside from reading and writing, I also love photography, gardening, and I'm a big Eggheads, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and Law and Order SVU fan. Like everyone else, I like travelling too!

My hens were all rescued from battery farms by Homes 4 Hens. If you'd like to learn more about the good work they do, you can visit their page by following this link.

If you want to email me, my email address is onbookes@gmail.com (if you want to ask me to review a book please note I'm a classics blogger so I won't review books that have been published in the last 50 years unless it is a biography of an author).

Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoy my blog.

1st December 2013.

  1. I propose that you compile a personal canon for your blog. Possibly I am being overly pushy.

    1. I love that idea! I'll go have a look at yours later this morning or this afternoon, and I'll have a think of my list - wouldn't want to rush it :)

    2. Excellent! Can't wait to see what you list. x
